Euro 6 is the sixth incarnation of stringent European emission standards which define the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in EU member states. The current legal standard since September 2014 is Euro Stage 6.
Petrol and diesel cars produce different types of emissions and are subject to different restrictions under the Euro 6 legislation. The permitted level of NOx for diesel cars is 0.08g/km while the permitted level for petrol cars is 0.06g/km.
Our ground-breaking new SKYACTIV-D Diesel and SKYACTIV-G petrol engines, available across the entire Mazda range exceed Euro Stage 6 emissions standards. All new Mazda models also comply with Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) requirements.
As the World’s lowest compression ratio diesel, our SKYACTIV-D diesel engines are fully compliant with all Euro 6 standards, offering clean and efficient engines that are designed to offer you the right engine for your needs without compromise. This delivers on our promise of cars that are fun to drive and meets our commitment to protecting the environment.
Our innovative SKYACTIV diesel technology has a compression ratio much lower than traditional diesels; this allows the combustion temperature and pressure at the optimal moment to be lower, extending ignition so the air and fuel has time to mix much better, making combustion more uniform and complete. The more complete the combustion, the less CO2, and NOx is produced.

Protecting the environment. Contributing to a better society. Minimising pollution. Conserving world resources.
At Mazda we embrace a challenge, and there is perhaps no greater challenge than the one we all face in the 21st century: protecting our environment. We set ourselves a unique project – to engineer a new driving technology that contributes to the greater sustainability of our earth’s energy resources, while at the same time improving our engine technology and performance. We came up with SKYACTIV Technology.
With SKYACTIV Technology we completely re-engineered every automotive component, including the engines, the transmissions, the bodies and the vehicle chassis. As a result we were able to acheive significant advances across these areas. Crucially the new technology offers a breakthrough eco solution, radically defying convention to give a 30% improvement in fuel economy and a 25% improvement in CO2 – a bold step toward a more sustainable vehicle. Find out more about SKYACTIV Technology.
At Mazda we are committed to our environmental principles one hundred percent. This commitment is born out in our actions: we've reduced waste material going into landfills in our production facilities by 55% since 1990, and our overall recycling rate has topped 91% (1996). Over 75% of our plastic parts can be recycled, and all our gaskets and brake-pads are asbestos-free. We don't use ozone-damaging CFCs in polyurethane products, and finally, many of our plants have passed the stringent ISO 14001 test - commonly known as the environmental ISO.
All cars eventually reach the end of the road. Mazda UK has teamed up with CarTakeBack who provide a network of professionally managed authorised treatment facilities (ATF’s). These are fully licensed by the Environment Agency and meet Mazda’s quality standards for the receipt, treatment and recovery of End of Life Vehicles.
The service is completely free of charge to the last registered holder or keeper of a Mazda vehicle (providing that the vehicle is complete and contains the essential components including engine, transmission, coachwork, wheels and catalyst where fitted. The vehicle must also be free from additional waste such as garden/household waste, additional tyres etc).
If you are ready to scrap your car now (regardless of Make or model), just click here to see how much your car could be worth and to arrange its free collection.
All battery producers in the UK are required to be registered with the Government as part of an EU-wide initiative to increase battery collection/recycling and completely prohibit the landfill/incineration of batteries. Mazda UK is registered as a Producer of Batteries under Registration Number BPRN00480.
As a producer of automotive batteries under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, Mazda UK are also obliged to collect, free of charge and within a reasonable time, waste automotive batteries for treatment and recycling from final holders e.g. garages, scrap yards, end-of-life vehicle Authorised Treatment Facilities, Civic Amenity Sites, etc. We are required to do this in any calendar year we place new automotive batteries on the market. Should you need to dispose of a single automotive battery from your vehicle, please utilise one of the facilities above in the first instance or visit your nearest Mazda dealer who will happy to assist.
If you or your organisation require us to take back any automotive batteries, please contact Mazda Customer Services on 03457 484848. We will agree the necessary arrangements for the collection, proper treatment and recycling of the waste automotive batteries.
As defined within the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, the small auxiliary Lead-Acid batteries fitted to some Mazda models in addition to the starter battery, are classified as Industrial batteries. Therefore, as a ‘producer’ of industrial batteries, Mazda UK are obliged to take back free of charge, waste industrial batteries supplied to an end user for treatment and recycling. We are required to do this in any calendar year we place new industrial batteries on the market. If any of our customers or in certain cases other end users require us to take back Industrial batteries, they should contact Mazda Customer Services on 03457 484848. We will agree the necessary arrangements for the return, proper treatment and recycling of the waste industrial batteries.
We are working in partnership with BatteryBack Plc to ensure that all Mazda batteries are recycled safely and in accordance with the Regulations. For further information on any of the above, please contact BatteryBack Plc (www.batteryback.org), or contact your local Mazda dealer.
